Concentrated Herbal Granules: 29% Less Packaging, 100% Recyclable

In 2017, we kickstarted our environmental journey. We started to implement changes in the way we use and create products.

As a company, it is our mission to reduce our carbon footprint and although it may not always be quick or easy, we are always working to make changes to be more sustainable. One issue that has come up frequently is our concentrated granule packaging.

The Solution

Over the years we have received lots of feedback on how we can improve, and one point of concern was the size of our herbal granule pots. Our granules are sold in 100gram portions but were supplied in slightly larger bottles which caused concerns regarding storage space and wasted material. After 4 years of development, we have worked with our manufacturing partners to find the best solution for our concentrated granule packaging. We have reduced the amount of plastic used by 29% to create a smaller pot without compromising on the quantity of granules.

As well as reducing the amount of material used, our granule pots are also 100% recyclable. They are made from medical grade high-density polyethene (HDPE) plastic to ensure the safety and efficacy of the granules are not compromised. As these products are used for medical purposes, the pots still contain an inner foil seal and outer plastic wrap to ensure there is no cross-contamination to maintain the utmost safety.

The Future

Previous feedback from our customers revealed that over 80% said eco-friendly/recyclable packaging is essential. As we manufacture and produce the majority of our products, it allows us to consider and implement the most sustainable option for all ranges – as well as introduce eco-friendly solutions in-house. All of our herbal product packaging is recyclable – including our Aura glass bottles and metal lids, we use a paperless and energy-saving operation in-house and we endeavour to reduce packaging waste on all orders.

Since 2018, we have been working with our business partners to develop the most environmental solution for our acupuncture needles and packaging. Although some alternatives have been introduced on the market, we wanted to introduce the most sustainable option for practitioners. It has been a long and difficult journey, but we believe we may have found the best option – keep your eyes peeled for more updates regarding 100% eco-friendly needles later this year.

We are working tirelessly to make Phoenix products as eco-friendly as possible and we will endeavour to continue this journey, ensuring we update our customers throughout each stage. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding our environmental policy, don’t hesitate to get in touch with marketing@phoenixmedical.com.

Please note: customers can expect to receive smaller granule pots once all the larger ones are sold.
